It’s hard to pick out Villa Vatura’s best feature. The swimming pool is huge and extends invitingly towards the sea; the garden is exotically dotted with palms; the four bedrooms are all spacious and of equal size; and the living areas spill onto deep verandas furnished with view-catching tables and chairs. Then there’s the tucked-away TV Room where you can catch up on the news, watch a movie or select one of the books lining the shelves.
As far as tropical villas go, Villa Vatura a true all-rounder. It’s designed perfectly for absorbing the ocean views (vatura means water) and for managing the sultry tropical climate: deep verandas protect against the elements, folding louvered doors open widely front and back, and ceilings soar high above, maximising air flow even when there’s little wind. The first floor balcony is the best place to savour the ocean views (along with the window-side tubs of the first floor bathrooms) and watch ships trailing the horizon. A pathway of stepping stones leading to the beach gate is all that separates this extensive garden with that of near-identical Villa Sulanga next door, and foliage sprouting up at the beach end provides a natural screen without detracting from the sea views. There’s a shallow shelf in the pool and the flat, enclosed garden is very child-friendly.
Villa Vatura shares a staff team with Villa Sulanga, although there are houseboys assigned to each villa. A cook prepares all meals at the villa, however guests have access to the villa's kitchen (and a small pantry) should they wish to cook for themselves or prepare kids' meals. Daily breakfasts are included, as is mineral water plus afternoon tea and cake; all other provisions are charged at cost price. Booking both villas together as an eight-bedroom property is a fabulous option for big groups, large gatherings and extended families.
June 2nd, 2012 - June 4th, 2012“This villa was truly beautiful and so so peaceful! The pool was clean and inviting, the rooms so spacious and the entire villa was just such a lovely experience! But I have to say that none of this would v been of any use if not for the wonderful deepani and her staff! The Hands on attention we got was wonderful- the best part being that the staff was never visible or in our face but always there to provide anything! The food was lovely - healthy ,home cooked , local delicacies and cost us next to nothing! On the whole I can only say that thlaramba reef made us truly proud to be Sri lankan! ”
